frequently asked questions into four categories:
- What to bring
- Race Day Queries
- Eating. drinking and sleeping
- Registration and admin
What to bring
What shoes should I wear?
Shoes for Running Events:
The
terrain of all our events is a mainly off road on paths, trails and
tracks. Depending on the weather the ground underfoot can get very
slippery and muddy. You can run all our events in road shoes, but most
people use trail shoes with varying levels of grip on the sole. We would
not recommend fell running shoes for our events, unless you are used to
running long distances in them. What ever you wear please ensure they
are comfortable and broken in.
What shoes should I wear?
Shoes for Mountain Bike Events:
For mountain bike
events please use your usual cycling shoes (clip-less, SPD shoes or
similar) or suitable comfortable and grippy trainers or hiking boots.
Whether using cycling specific shoes or an alternative they should be
safe, grippy and comfortable for both cycling and for walking if
dismounted from your bike. What ever you wear please ensure they are
comfortable and broken in.
What kit is compulsory?
There
is no compulsory kit for any of our ultra races. For the Fan Dance there
is a list of compulsory kit. We do
have a list of recommended kit
which can be found by following the link from any of our event pages.
This is a minimum and you are welcome to bring whatever you normally run
with.
What should I wear?
What
you wear is really personal preference, but clearly the conditions will
dictate exactly what you wear. When deciding, you need to consider that
in the autumn and winter, conditions can change quickly and you will be
out on the course for a long time. In the
spring and summer you also need to consider weather changes, but also
the effect of the sun on your skin. Please
view our recommended kit list for
extra items of clothing to wear and/or carry.
Fan Dance
Rucksacks?
If you are entering the Fan Warrior or Fan Elite Warrior category of the
Fan Dance you must bring your own rucksack. This rucksack must weigh a
minimum of 30lbs.
Fan Dance
Rifle?
If you are entering the Fan Dance as a Fan Elite Warrior you need to
bring your own rucksack but you will be supplied with an Army issue
training rifle for use at the event.
